Getting Started
Initial Setup
After creating your account, you'll be guided through the setup wizard:
- Create your first budget
- Set your currency
- Choose your date format
- Configure initial settings
Accounts
Accounts represent your financial accounts (checking, savings, credit cards, etc.).
Creating Accounts
- Navigate to the Accounts page
- Click "+ Add Account"
- Enter account details (name, type, starting balance)
- Choose whether it's on-budget or tracking
- Save the account
Account Types
- Checking - Regular checking accounts
- Savings - Savings accounts
- Credit Card - Credit card accounts
- Cash - Physical cash
- Tracking - Off-budget accounts (investments, assets)
Categories and Category Groups
Categories are where you assign your budgeted money. Category groups help organize related categories.
Creating Categories
- Go to your budget dashboard
- Click "+ Add Category" or create a category group first
- Enter category name and optional notes
- Set a monthly budget amount (optional)
- Assign to a category group
Quick Budget Strategies
Use quick budget strategies to quickly allocate money:
- Assign To Zero - Distribute all available funds
- Average of Last 3 Months - Use historical spending
- Set to Goal - Fund to a specific target
- Even Split - Divide equally among categories
Transactions
Adding Transactions
- Navigate to Transactions or the Dashboard
- Click "+ Add Transaction"
- Fill in transaction details:
- Date
- Account
- Payee
- Category
- Amount (inflow or outflow)
- Notes (optional)
- Save the transaction
Importing Transactions
You can import transactions from CSV files:
- Click "Import" on the transactions page
- Upload your CSV file
- Map columns to transaction fields
- Select date format and delimiter
- Preview and edit transactions if needed
- Select which transactions to import
- Complete the import
Dashboard
The dashboard is fully customizable. You can:
- Drag and drop widgets to rearrange
- Resize widgets by dragging corners
- Add or remove widgets
- Customize the layout to match your workflow
Click the edit button to enter edit mode and customize your dashboard.
Reports
View comprehensive reports about your spending:
- Spending by category
- Income vs expenses
- Trends over time
- Budget progress
Settings
Access settings to configure:
- User profile and preferences
- Budget settings
- Themes and appearance
- Sidebar visibility
- Transaction view preferences
Budget Sharing
Share your budget with family members or partners:
- Go to Budget Settings
- Invite users by email
- Set permission levels (view-only, editor, admin)
- Collaborate on financial goals together
