Your Privacy Matters
Last updated: February 2, 2026
Overview
Limitless Budget is a self-hosted application, which means you can run it on your own infrastructure. This fundamental architecture ensures that your financial data stays under your control when you host your own instance.
Important: If you choose to create an account on someone else's self-hosted instance (for example, if someone hosts Limitless Budget at a public URL like limitlessbudget.app), your data will be stored on their server, not yours. In this case, the instance owner has access to your data, and you should trust them accordingly. For maximum privacy and control, we recommend hosting your own instance.
The original developers of Limitless Budget do not collect, store, or have access to any of your financial information. Your data belongs to you, and when you host your own instance, you have complete control over it.
Data Storage
If you host your own instance: All your financial data—including budgets, transactions, accounts, categories, and personal information—is stored in databases that you control on your own server. This data is never transmitted to our servers or any third-party services.
If you use someone else's instance: Your data is stored on their server, and they have access to it. You should review their privacy policy and trust them with your financial information before creating an account.
If you host your own instance, you are responsible for:
- Securing your server and database
- Implementing proper backup strategies
- Controlling access to your instance
- Complying with applicable data protection regulations
No Data Collection
We do not collect, track, or analyze any of your financial data. We do not use analytics services that would collect information about your usage. We do not sell or share any data because we don't have access to it.
The application runs entirely on your infrastructure, and all data processing happens locally on your server.
Authentication
User authentication is handled locally on your server. Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms and stored securely in your database. We do not have access to your passwords or authentication tokens.
If you choose to use email-based authentication, email addresses are stored in your database and used only for authentication and communication within your instance.
Third-Party Services
Limitless Budget does not integrate with third-party financial services or data aggregators. We do not connect to banks, credit card companies, or other financial institutions on your behalf.
If you choose to import transactions from CSV files, this processing happens entirely on your server. No data is sent to external services.
Your Rights
Since you control the server and database, you have complete control over your data:
- You can export your data at any time
- You can delete your data at any time
- You can modify or migrate your data as needed
- You can audit the code to verify privacy claims
- You can stop using the service and remove all data
Open Source
Limitless Budget is open source, which means the code is publicly available. You can review the code to verify our privacy claims and ensure that no data collection is occurring.
This transparency is a core part of our commitment to privacy and security.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Since you control your instance, you can review any changes and decide whether to update your installation. The fundamental principle—that your data stays on your server—will not change.
Contact
If you have questions about this privacy policy or how your data is handled, please refer to the project documentation. Since we don't have access to your data, we cannot answer questions about specific data stored in your instance.
